‘Missing you’
According to CCTV statistics, China has 21,917 people are missing every day, and in the past minute, 15 people have just disappeared.
Old people were lost on the streets, young people were taken away, pretty girls were dragged into the sewers, and depressed person went into the deep ocean. Among those missing population, some of them are still exist somewhere in this world. some of them are happy, but some are painful. Some of them died naturally and some of them unnaturally died. Some neither die or be alive, but just not in the same time and space as us, they might in another world or society, might even be alone in one individual space and exist forever. We are now in the era of big data, especially in China where monitors are everywhere, but there are still so many people disappeared. The disappearance is similar but more complicated than death. One’s death will be gradually forgotten as time goes by, but the missing person has been a knot at that time, becoming an unanswered question, becoming a lock without a key, disappearing into the endless universe.
Death and disappearance. In the concept of ‘social death’, when a person has no form of existence in the society, even if he or she is still alive, he or she still be considered as died in the society. But if the missing person is still remembered by anyone, then he or she is still exist. The anxiety generated by relatives leads them to insist that the missing person exists in the “somewhere” of the “world” and they cannot easily face to the possibility of missing people being killed or dying in other reason. Anxiety forces them willing to search every corner of the world
I can't do anything for the full screen of the searching notice except for the huge powerlessness. Time and space compress us here without telling us where we are going. Humans are like the sphere that balances on the top of an triangle. We really has no idea about where are we gonna fall in the next second. I hope that I can use a space, and the six inner walls of this cube space are covered with dense and colorful searching notices. There is a painful story behind everyone, or a painful story of a group of people. I will explain this story as much as possible (translate every notice), and I can see their portraits, some in happy and some looks chill which nobody knows when did it was shot. as well as a short description of the appearance, appearance looks like the signs of preventing loss that are given by god before we born. When the notice is posted indoors, it can't play his essential role, but everyone on the wall has become a basic factor in this space, which constitutes a large number of groups(missing population). The human community feels suffocated because people got lost so randomly. And those missing people’s lives are not fundamentally different from us, all of them are also ordinary human beings within normal lives. Such similarities give us fear and anxiety, which is worthy of deep thinking and improvement as much as possible.
At the same time, I also plan to do a performance art, which gonna be documented in video form and play on the wall in the space I mentioned in the previous paragraph. I want to print out the little boy's notice and paste it in every corner of the "world." Sticked to a taxi in New York, posted on the upper floor of the Empire State Building, posted in the corner of the small restaurant, posted on the tree in the Royal Mountain, stuck in the grass of the Syracuse, on the top of the train, on the side of the Starbucks trash can, On the iron sheet of the subway, on the shelves of the mall, behind the pots, under the pool.
Everything that can be reached has to be posted. Because the relatives whose family members are missing, the anxiety and desperation cannot be alleviated by any factors. Their constantly searching may be the only way to alleviate their anxiety. They blame themselves for the no result. They treat themselves as wrong and should be punished because they firmly believe that they and the missing people are still under the same blue sky. I want to choose this little boy as the content of the notice because his whole process makes me very shocked and desperate. The little boy’s leg was cut off, his right eye was dug, his tongue was cut, and he was see as a tool for begging, this perfectly matches one words: hell is other people. The little boy was taken away and left his parents since he was born and this objective and rational explanation comes from the police. This calm description on the notice is even more terrifying in the face of desperate humanity.
